ABOUT

MARIYEH GHELICHKHANI

Mariyeh Ghelichkhani, the founder and creative director of her eponymous jewellery brand, is an Emirati artist, deeply shaped by her Persian heritage and a rich tapestry of varied cultural influences.

The Artist

Mariyeh Ghelichkhani is a jewellery artist whose work is distinguished by exceptional-coloured gemstones, sculptural forms and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Her practice spans one-of-a-kind creations and private commissions, balancing artistic expression with an intuitive approach to jewellery. Nature, mythology and memory inform her distinctive design language, expressed through organic forms, unexpected gemstone combinations and an instinctive use of colour.

For bespoke creations, whether designing a bridal suite, reimagining a family heirloom or adapting one of her signature designs around a client’s chosen gemstone, the process begins with listening. Mariyeh brings the client’s story into conversation with her own artistic vision, creating a jewel that feels deeply personal while remaining unmistakably her own.

Rather than following trends, Mariyeh creates jewels that feel timeless, expressive and alive.

The Craft

Every jewel begins with a gemstone.

For Mariyeh, the search for exceptional-coloured gems is one of the most rewarding parts of the creative process. Over the years, she has built trusted relationships with gemstone dealers and cutters in Brazil, Hong Kong, Europe, and beyond, allowing her to source stones of remarkable beauty, character and individuality. Sometimes that search takes months. She believes extraordinary jewels deserve extraordinary gemstones.

The creative process continues at the goldsmith’s bench.

Working closely alongside master craftspeople, Mariyeh remains personally involved throughout production, refining proportions, adjusting details and ensuring every element feels exactly right. She is known for her meticulous eye and exacting standards — not in pursuit of perfection for its own sake, but because every finished piece should feel alive.

Her role extends far beyond design. She is present throughout the journey, from sourcing gemstones to the final polish, ensuring every jewel reflects the care and intention with which it was conceived.

The Journey

Jewellery was never part of Mariyeh’s original plan.

Her path began with loss. Following the death of her father, Abi Ghelichkhani, a celebrated jeweller and silversmith in Tehran known for blending European craftsmanship with Eastern aesthetics, a friend suggested she try goldsmithing as a way of coping with grief.

The first time she sat at the bench, childhood memories came rushing back. Growing up, she had spent countless hours in her father’s workshop, watching him create with extraordinary patience and imagination. Returning to that environment felt less like learning a new craft than rediscovering something that had always been part of her.

Determined to learn, she sought guidance wherever she could, carrying unfinished pieces from one workshop to another until experienced craftspeople recognised both her commitment and her potential. She learnt patiently at the bench — stone by stone, setting by setting, mistake by mistake.

Today, her work carries the influence of that early experience, shaped by Persian heritage, enriched by life across Europe and the Middle East, and grounded in the creative energy of the United Arab Emirates, where she now lives and works.

The Vision

For Mariyeh, jewellery is a form of artistic expression — one that brings together colour, form, craftsmanship and emotion. Each jewel begins with her own creative vision, but its story continues through the person who chooses to wear it.

Whether creating a one-of-a-kind piece or a private commission to mark a wedding, honour a loved one or give new life to a family jewel, Mariyeh is passionate about creating work that carries significance beyond its beauty.

She sees jewellery as art that is lived with: worn, experienced and gradually imbued with memories of its own. Over time, a jewel created by an artist can acquire another dimension — becoming an heirloom whose meaning grows as it passes from one generation to the next.

Mariyeh creates with that possibility in mind: jewels with a distinct artistic identity, made to become part of someone else’s story.

“Each piece is a reflection of my journey —
they offer others an invitation to connect with their own personal voyage through life.”
